I recently had the opportunity to interview author, Sonya McGirt. Sonya is new to the Cosby Media Productions family and I know you all will be ready to get your hands on her first book, “My Journey-Living Through Christ Victoriously.”
Keshawn Dodds: Hello, Sonya, tell us a little about yourself? Sonya McGirt: I am married with three daughters and two step-children. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work and my husband and I run a center that assist homeless and those less fortunate. Keshawn: Wow! That is amazing, I can tell from the field that you are in. You are a very giving person. Thank you for your service to help the less fortunate. Can you tell us what inspired you to write your book? Sonya: Years ago I felt in my spirit I was supposed to write a book, but every time I sat down to begin, I could not come up with anything. A year and a half ago I had been praying about it and felt the Holy Ghost speak to me about the direction I was to take. I was on Twitter and seen, Braxton Cosby and noticed he had a publishing company. I asked a few questions and a month or so later I was offered a two year contract. Keshawn: That is so great to hear. I am happy that Braxton was able to bring you into the Cosby Media Productions, Family. Moving forward, is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? Sonya: Yes there is. The message that I hope my readers walk away with is we all have fallen in our life, but through God's grace and forgiveness we can come back stronger than ever. Keshawn: God be the glory. Can you tell me how you come up with the title for the book? Sonya: I wrote the whole manuscript not knowing the title of the book until a week or so later. I just knew it was perfect when it came to mind. Keshawn: That’s sometimes the best way to come up with a title. Once the work is written, it comes to you like lightening. Now, what are some of your current projects? Sonya: I am currently working on a book about how we allow our mind to be controlled by things other than the Holy Spirit and how those thoughts can actually destroy us if we allow them to. I am also working on a book on marriage. Keshawn: That is amazing. It’s always nice to see another author so entrenched in their craft. Do you recall how your interest in writing originated? Sonya: I used to love writing and reading as a kid. I would imagine myself in the stories I would read. I also wrote poems and short stories when I was younger. Keshawn: So your love of writing stems from childhood. It’s important for our youth to be able to get lost in books then later become inspired as adults. I’m happy that was the path that you chose. What was the hardest part of writing your book? Sonya: Staying focussed! Keshawn: Isn’t that the truth and straight to the point. No need to explain, we can all understand that. Now, if you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book? Sonya: I can't say that I would. I am still on my third edits so it hasn't come out on the stands yet but hoping it won't be much longer. Keshawn: I’ve been there with our editor, Tamar Hela. Trust me, she will give you the best product possible. Do you have any advice for other writers? Sonya: Yes I do, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do anything. If we allow ourselves to think negative then only negativity will proceed from us and we start listening to those around us. Just stay focused, sit down and make time to begin your story. The possibilities and endless! Keshawn: Amen to that. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers? Sonya: I hope that once the book is available that each and every one that reads it, walks away with a positive experience. Keshawn: Thank you, Sonya. I cannot wait to get my hands on your book. Good luck with your journey and once again, welcome to the Cosby Media Productions Family. LINKS Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sonya.mcgirt?fref=ts Website: COMING SOON!!!
