In June, I had the craziest health scare that I have ever experienced in my life. I came down with something known as Bell’s Palsy. What this disease does, is completely paralyze the entire left side of your face. I lost the ability to blink and also, produce tears. I lost my sense of taste; my hearing was way out of whack, to the point where even the slightest noise, sounded like a train was running through my head; and lastly, I had no energy to function correctly. What made it worse was that the Doctors really had no idea as to what the root cause of this could have been. I was tested for everything under the sun and luckily, everything came back negative.
After talking to my wife and several people around me, I came to the realization that the root-cause of me having Bell’s Palsy, was…ME!!! While I had no choice but to stay at home and try to recover, I took that time to look back at the past several months and analyzed what I was doing to myself. #1. I wasn’t eating right at all. Mostly, one meal a day and eating pure junk for a snack (Yes, a damn honey bun and a Sweat Tea); #2. I wasn’t giving myself enough rest (Going to bed around 1:30am and even as late as 3am and waking up for 7am). And #3. I my workload was PACKED. Working fulltime, writing books, holding events, working on a play, spending quality time with my family and also coaching a little league soccer team (CAN YOU SAY CRAZY!!!) It was no wonder that my body shut down on me.
Luckily, after 6 weeks, and after taking the advice from my wife and family members, I forced myself to relax and restructure my habits to have healthier lifestyle of living. The first step was to realize that I AM NOT JESUS AND I CANNOT DO EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN; Second, I had to prioritize my life and restructure my schedule so that I didn’t put myself back in the bed; and lastly, I have to focus on living a healthier lifestyle.
I have taken charge of my first two steps to recovering fully and now I am focused and I mean FOCUSED on my final step of living a healthier lifestyle. You know God is great when he continues to send the right people to knock on your door to help you achieve your goals. I believe that God continued to push my close friend, college roommate and AMAZING Fitness guru, Marcus Austin into my life to introduce the Body By Vi program into my life. The timing couldn’t be better. After speaking to him about the challenges that I have faced, he has graciously taken me under his wing and has gotten me connected into this amazing program.
I am now beginning my Body By Vi, 90 Day challenge to living a better life and I am so thankful of Marcus for believing in me.
